The celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Mole's Cup, the internationally-renowned Baseball for the Blind tournament, will have to wait until 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally scheduled for September 3-5, 2020 in Freising, Germany, host Bavarian Bats regretably made the announcement to postpone the Mole's Cup to maximize participation from near and far nations.
Baseball for the Blind was on the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Congress agenda for the first time in Osaka, Japan. WBSC Member Federations took notice of the moving presentation delivered by Alberto Mazzanti and Eva Trevisan of the . In fact, it is hopeful that Pakistan, Panama, and Argentina will join 2019 Mole's Cup participants Italy, Cuba, France, Germany, Great Britain, and the USA's New York Rockers in the 2021 edition of the Mole's Cup.
2019 Mole's Cup host Team Italy defeated Cuba 1-0 in the Mole's Cup final to claim last year's championship title. City of Rome Sport Commissioner Daniele Frongia presented an award to the Italian National team for winning the Mole's Cup and pledged his support of Baseball for the Blind during the ceremony. The first Baseball for the Blind game was played over 25 years ago in Bologna. Organized by the AIBXC, the Italian Baseball for the Blind League now has eleven teams: five in the Lombardia Region (Patrini Malnate, Lampi Milan, Leonessa Brescia, Thunder’s Five Milan), one in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Staranzano), one in Rome (All Blinds), one in Florence (Fiorentina), one in Umbria (Redskins), and two in Sardinia (Thurpos and Tigers Cagliari). Milano Thunder's Five won the 2019 title after defeating Leonessa Brescia in the final. Forza #Italia!
