Colombia and Mexico qualify for the World Baseball Classic

The national teams of Colombia and Mexico qualified for the 2017 World Baseball Classic (WBC) winning the qualifiers played in Panama City and Mexicali

The national teams of Colombia and Mexico qualified for the 2017 World Baseball Classic (WBC) winning the qualifiers played in Panama City and Mexicali. After Australia qualified earlier in 2016, the WBC has still one free spot. It will be filled in September by the winner of the Brooklyn qualifier between Brazil, Great Britain, Israel and Pakistan.

Colombia surprised on their home field Panama with a 2-1 win. The tie breaker was a solo homer by Mets second baseman Dilson Herrera off reliever Corpas. Colombia needed 6 pitchers to manufacture the win.

Mexico didn't need so much drama to earn a spot in the WBC. Led by Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, they outscored (12-1) Nicaragua to complete an unbeaten campaign
