Defending Champ Rimini opens 2-0 playoff lead on San Marino

Rimini took a 2-0 playoff series win against rival San Marino before the series shifts up the road to San Marino for the next three games

Rimini took a 2-0 playoff series win against rival San Marino before the series shifts up the road to San Marino for the next three games.

In game 1, Mayora and Ramos had RBI singles in a two run first, but San Marino got one back in the second after Colmeneras tripled and scored. The game would stay close until Rimini exploded with a five run bottom of the fifth, highlighted by a Di Fabio triple and a Mayora double that ended Camacho's night, and put the game out of reach. San Marino would add two runs in the 8th to make the score closer than the actual game.

Game 2 was much tighter, but again Rimini came out on top. Nettuno exploded for four first inning runs against Oberto, none of them earned after the first two batters were retired and a grounder that should have ended the inning resulted in the first of two errors.  That along with a big two run single by Camargo, seemed to break the game open.  Rimini would not score again and the game would remain 4-0 until the 7th when San Marino scored two runs on a Colmeneros double, but with a runner on third and one out Reginato hit into a crucial double play. San Marino would add another in the 8th after a passed ball with the bases loaded, but super slugger Colmenares struckout with runners on 2nd and 3rd to end the threat.

San Marino battled to their last breath, loading the bases with two outs in the ninth on two walks and a single, but Jack Santora popped out to first to end the game, and get Rimini one step closer to defending their Italian Baseball League title. Richetti pitched six innings for the win, and Rivera finished the game up for the save.
