President Gabriel Waage threw out the first pitch before defending A1 Softball champion and host Bussolengo took the field for game one of a doubleheader against MKF Bollate on Saturday, July 11, 2020. ESF President Gabriel Waage was accompanied on 2020 A1 Softball Opening Day by Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball Softball (FIBS) federal councilors Roberta Soldi and Daniela Castellani, who also serves as ESF vice president.

The head of the ESF later met with the Italian federal councilors to discuss and plan for possible national team competitions in the U15 and U18 categories. ESF President Gabriel Waage spoke publicly during the A1 Softball Opening Ceremony and said, "Italy had some rough times in the last few months but being back on the field today is a win. Sport is the bridge to a better life." Roberta Soldi commented, "FIBS never gave up on this season and, despite many difficulties, worked to make it happen for months. The day finally arrived." Daniela Castellani echoed the sentiment and said, "It's an indescribable emotion to be back on the field where I started to play softball for the beginning of a symbolic season for Italian softball." Forza #Italia!
