In game five of the best-of-five Italian Softball Series, MFK Bollate manager Eduardo Arocha called on starting pitcher Alice Nicolini, while Inox Team Saronno skipper Wilmer Pino countered with starter Kandra Lamb. MKF Bollate got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning after an Elisa Cecchetti walk and an RBI double by Gabriela Slaba.
Inox Team Saronno threatened to tie the contest in the top of top of the third inning when Alessandra Rotondo (2-for-3, 2B, BB) led off with a double but was thrown out at third base on a fielder’s choice. MKF Bollate added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Mikiko Eguchi doubled and later scored on a throwing error to first base by pitcher Kandra Lamb after a bunt by Laura Bigatton.
MKF Bollate reliever Greta Cecchetti entered the contest in the top of the sixth inning with two out and a runner on first base and induced a quick Sara Brugnoli groundout to end the scoring threat. She pitched a scoreless top of the seventh inning with two strikeouts to pick up the save and secure the 2-0 victory over Inox Team Saronno to win the Italian Softball Series.
SARONNO-BOLLATE GAME 5 BOX SCORE
After the 2-0 win in game five of the Italian Softball Series, Bollate won its fourteenth championship for patron Guido Soldi and the first title since 1996 when winning once again on its home turf. MKF Bollate spark plug Mikiko Eguchi (6-for-8, 2B, HR, 5 R, 3 RBI, 9 BB) was named best player of the 2024 Italian Softball Series. The Japanese player said, "It was a tough year, but this group is formidable and deserves this success.” Congratulations go out to MKF Bollate Eduardo Arocha, who earned his second championship title in the last three years for two different teams.
