Former Team Italy coach John McLaren reunited with Marco Mazzieri on WBSC Coach Commission

John McLaren served as Team Italy coach under manager Marco Mazzieri and helped the Azzurri baseball squad win a bronze medal in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup

John McLaren served as Team Italy coach under manager Marco Mazzieri and helped the Azzurri baseball squad win a bronze medal in the 2010 Intercontinental Cup. A decade has passed and once again the two baseball minds have come together. The announced that John McLaren has joined the WBSC Coach Commission, which is chaired by Marco Mazzieri. The WBSC Coach Commission also includes the likes of Team Italy coaches Andrea D'Auria and Rafael Colon as well as Kyla Holas, Craig Montvidas, David Santos, and DJ Wabik.

John McLaren is a proponent of international baseball. Before joining Team Italy in 2010, he was part of the USA coaching staff in the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006 and later went on to become manager of China in the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classic. John McLaren is also a seasoned veteran MLB manager (Seattle Mariners from 2007-2008 and Washington Nationals in 2011) and coach (Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Washington Nationals, and Philadelphia Phillies).
