ISL: Staranzano to the playoffs, Bologna out

The last week of the regular season decided the six teams that advance to the Italian Softball League playoffs

The last week of the regular season decided the six teams that advance to the Italian Softball League playoffs.  The last team to punch their ticket was Staranzano, who took advantage of the split between Bologna and Sestese, taking two from last place Collecchio to inch past Bologna, and make their extra game that would have had to be made up, inconsequential and claim the third seed in Girone B.

But the battle for first place between Forli and Bussolengo will be on hold, with the teams finishing the weekend separated by a half game, meaning that a make up game between Bussolengo and Sestese to be played July 30th will decide first and second place. It is hard to imagine near last place Sestese outplaying a top team four weeks after the regular season ended, while Bussolengo has everything to play for, but the result on the field will decide the playoff seeding.

Meanwhile in Girone A, with much less drama, Bollate finished their dominant season 22-2, a full seven games ahead of La Loggia who secured second place, followed by Caronno who was nearly assured of third place before the weekend started and will not need to make up their 24th game in Sardegna, and can calmly prepare for the post season.
