Italia wins the 2014 All Star Game
It turned out to be a big party down in Nettuno, Italy at this year’s 4th annual Italian Baseball League’s All Star Game. Coming out with the 4 to 2 victory was Team Italy in front of the 5000 fan that were in attendance. Picking up the games MVP on his old stomping grounds was Renato Imperiali after he came off the bench and picked up a 2 RBI double for Italy in the 5th. It was R. Imperiali’s first time wearing Italy’s colors in his career.
Once this year’s Mine Home Run Derby came to a conclusion where it was Osman Marval who swung his way to the trophy, the events continued with a ceremonial first pitch that was thrown out by the grandson of the infamous Babe Ruth, Tom Stevens. This year marks the 100th year in which Babe Ruth made his MLB debut.
The Italian National Team’s manager, Marco Mazzieri, called upon Carlos Richetti to get things going for his club on the mound, as he was paired up with Reginato behind the dish. Behind these two it was Ermini who got the start at first, Vaglio at second, Epifano at short, and Infante at third. In the outfield it was Zileri in left, Desimoni in center, and Ambrosino in right. On the other side of the diamond it was Jr. Guerra that got the start for the All Stars, Marval behind the plate, Castrì at first, Francesco Imperiali at second, Vasquez at short, and Sforza at third. The outfield was rounded out with Medoro, Poma and Liverziani from left to right.
The game got started with 2 runs being put up by the IBL All Stars when Poma hit a fly to left which ended up falling from Zileri’s glove. The error was then followed by a triple off the bat of Liveriani, plating Poma, and a double by Marval, which gave the All Stars a 2-0 lead after the first half inning of play.
In the bottom of the fourth it was Team Italy’s turn to get on the scoreboard and tie the game up at 2 off of the All Star’s Matignoni. Vaglio got things started with a single to center that was followed by a single through the left side by Mazzanti. Both runners were then able to advance on a wild pitch with Abrosino at the plate, who eventually drew a walk to load the bases. Italy’s runs were then picked on groundouts by Reginato and Zileri. In the 5th Italy then tacked on 2 more thanks to a two RBI double off the bat of the game’s MVP, Renato Imperiali of Lino’s Coffee Parma, putting the score at its final of 4 to 2. The win pushed the Italian National Team’s All Star Game record to 2-1-1 all time over the IBL All Stars.
