Team Italy got off to a fantastic at the first ever Under 21 World Cup of Baseball in Taiwan with a 7 to 2 victory over New Zealand on Friday. The win was picked up by a very solid Filippo Crepaldi, who threw up 5.1 strong innings of work where he allowed just 3 total hits and 1 run, needing just 54 pitches set the tone for the rest of his club on the way to the ‘W’. At the plate it was the stick of Alberto Mineo that did most of the damage, as the left handed hitting catcher went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored. As a group the Italians banged out a total of 9 hits and picked up 4 walks, which was more then enough for them to walk away winners. Up next for Italy will be South Korea on Saturday, a team that also won their opening game against the Czech Republic by the inflated final of 15 to 5.
