The Italian National Softball Team bettered their overall record at this year’s World Softball Championship in Holland to 2 and 2 after they were able to walk away with the 6-0 victory against Botswana. It was a game that was hampered by a 3 hour rain delay and which lasted around 6 hours in all, with the Italians being able to come out on top thanks to the combination of Greta Cecchetti and Mara Papucci. Cecchetti went the first 3 innings, not allowing a single base runner (9 strikeouts), Mara Papucci then came on in the 4th where she only allowed 3 hits and no runs to finish off the game for the win. At the plate for Italy each one of their first six hitters in the lineup recorded a hit. Leadoff hitter, Trevisan went 1 or 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Montanari also drove in a run in her 1 for 4 day. This was the first game in which the Italians were able to play errorless ball.

It was a big win for the Italians, as they will now have a chance to get over .500 at the tournament if they are able to take down Great Britain on Tuesday.
