NY Mets honor Team Italy manager Mike Piazza with street naming at Port St. Lucie ballpark

Prior to making an appearance at the CON6 Italian Baseball and Softball Convention at Palacongressi di Rimini in Italy from January 24-26, 2020, Mike Piazza will be in Port St. Lucie, Florida for a "major announcement regarding an address change and street naming" on January 16, 2020. It is anticipated that the address of the home for the New Yorks Mets Spring Training in Port St. Lucie, Florida will be changed to honor the new Team Italy manager. New York Mets Chief Operating Officer Jeff Wilpon as well as local elected officials from the City of Port St. Lucie and St. Lucie County will join Mike Piazza for this historical event.

Mike Piazza played for the New York Mets from 1998 to 2005. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 2013. Shortly after Mike Piazza was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 with a New York Mets cap on his plaque, his number 31 was retired by the the New York Mets. By becoming the fourth Met in history to have his number retired, Mike Piazza joined the elite company of Casey Stengel (37), Gil Hodges (14), and Tom Seaver (41). In fact, the address change and street naming honor for Mike Piazza follows what the New York Mets did for Tom Seaver last summer when they changed the address of Citi Field to 41 Seaver Way.
