Rhibo La Loggia repeats as ISL Champs
Rhibo La Loggia claims the 2014 Italian Softball League’s top prize for the second consecutive year after taking game four of a best of five finals against Specchiasol Bussolengo by the final of 10-5. Bussolengo was given new life on Sunday morning after they took game one of the day by the final of 5-0 on their home turf. The win pulled the series to a two games to one lead for La Loggia, and Bussolengo had their gears running high leading into game four, as they sprinted out to a five to nothing lead after the first three innings of play off of Rhibo’s best arm, Lindsey Beisser. However in the 5th the tide shifted very quickly in favor of La Loggia, as they came on strong with ten total runs in the last three innings of play.
The scoring got started with a quick three runs in the bottom half of the first after Bennet, and Bortomai singled to get the game started, which was then followed up by another RBI single off the bat of Bruins. Later in that same frame it was both Brandi and Bruins that came around to score, giving the home Specchiasol Bussolengo club the three to nothing lead. In the bottom of the very next inning Bussolengo was able to tack on another run thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Bruins, who drove in Bennet from second. In the third Bussolengo score run number five of the game thanks to a sac fly off the bat of DelMastio.
That would be it in the runs column for Bussolengo, as Elisa Brandino came on strong out of the pen in relief of Lindsey Beisser, to up a scoreless 3.1 innings of work on the rubber. As for the runs on La Loggia’s side, well they came in bunches between the 5th through 7th. Ten in all were picked up, with four coming in the 5th, cutting their deficit to just a single run thanks to some clutch hitting by Carlucci (RBI), Rurazzi (RBI), and Camelo (2 RBI’s). In the 6th it was Bosdachin (RBI), Rurazzi (2 RBI’s), and Necco (RBI) turn to add to La Loggia’s run total, giving them the lead with a score of eight to five, and finally in the top of inning number seven the game was put out of reach when Avanzi scored on a fielders choice which was followed by an RBI single off the bat of Giorgi, which plated Ricchi.
Picking up the win in this championship game for La Loggia was Elisa Brandino with 3.1 innings of work out of the pen. Elisa allowed no runs and just four walks in her effort before handing the ball off to Stella Turazzi who came on for the perfect 1.1 inning save.
