For the fourth year in a row, the finals of European Champions Cup will be played out between two clubs out of the Italian Baseball League, T&A San Marino (2-1 semifinals win over the Vaessen Pioniers) and the Rimini Pirates (9-2 semifinals win over the Door Neptunus).

For T&A San Marino all it took was a solo shot in the 4th off the bat of the MVP of the tournament, Jairo Ramos, and an RBI double in the 6th that was produced by Vasquez, plus the combo of Guerra and Delgado on the bump, all of which combined for the 2 to 1 semifinals win in Hoopfdorp Holland over the Pioniers. Ramos’s solo shot in the 4th off of Hernandez got the scoring started for T&A. In the 5th the home team, Pioniers were able to tie the game up thanks to an RBI single off the bat of the lefty, Klooster, but that was all they would get in the frame after Guerra was able to strand two on the sacs, pitching his way out of danger. In the 6th Macaluso led off the inning with a single, advanced to second thanks to a two strike sac but by Avagnina, and then scored when Vasquez banged a double off the third base bag. From that point on the duo of Guerra and Delgado took over on the bump for San Marino, bring home the victory and the Hoopfdorp tournament.

In the Brno, Czech Republic finals, the Rimini Pirates fought their way towards the semifinals win against the Door Neptunus. The Pirates got into the semis thanks to a big win against Ukraine on Saturday, and a loss that was suffered by France on the same day to Germany. With the finals bid, Rimini came in with high hopes thanks to a rested Ekstrom, their dominate ace. Rimini took an early 2 to 1 lead in this one, but upon Ekstom’s departure from the game after the 7th the Door Neptunus were able to tie the game up at 2 all in the 8th off of the lefty Marquez. In the top half of the 9th Rimini blew the doors wide open after they were able to push across an impressive 7 runs, which put the score at the final of 9 to 2. This semifinals EU Champions Cup win now puts Rimini in the finals for the second consecutive year.
