South Korea's incredible run to the WBSC’s Premier12 tournament final concluded with a championship on Saturday night in Tokyo after their decisive 8-0 victory over the U.S..
The Koreans finished their championship run off with a 6 and 2 mark, while the U.S. took the number 2 two spot at the event with a 5 and 3 record.
After picking up a run in both the 1st and 3rd, Korea was able to blow the game wide open with a 5 run 4th, of which included a 3 runs shot off the bat of the tournament’s MVP Byung Ho Park. Korea’s starting pitcher, Kwang-hyun Kim, also had an impressive night, fanning 5 over his 5 innings of shut out ball on his way to the win.
For the Americans, Elliot Soto was the lone wolf to post a multihit game, while Zack Segovia allowed two runs in his two innings on the bump to take the loss.
With the win, the Koreans will be taking home the top prize, 1 million US dollars, while the the United States earned $600,000 as the runner up.
