The Race is on for the 2014 Italian Baseball Series, with UnipolSai Bologna already assured a spot in the finals they now will have to wait and see if it will be the Rimini Pirates or T&A San Marino.

UnipolSai Bologna completed the three game sweep of Lino’s Coffee Parma on Saturday evening in Bologna with the 8 to 0 victory. Picking up the win for Bologna was Manauris Baez, who went six strong frames for the win, giving up only a single hit in the process (a single to Poma in the 3rd). Picking up his first homer of the season was Andrea D’Amico for Bologna. UnipolSai now betters their overall record to 12 and 3 in the second round, while Parma droped to 3 and 12. Next weekend Bolonga will face off with the Rimini Pirates, while Parma will welcome in T&A San Marino for a three game set.

With the series sitting at 1 and 1 between the Rimini Pirates and T&A San Marino these two clubs had to wait an extra day to get that third game of the series in after heavy rainfall hit the Riviera coast on Saturday. When game three finally got underway it turned out to be an all San Marino affair lead by their southpaw, Valerio Simone (7.1 ip, win) on the bump, and the big bats of Mazzuca and Ramos who both picked huge homers for T&A. When all was said and done it was a 15 hit attack that lead off the 5-1 win for San Marino, thus giving them new life heading in the last week of the semifinals round, just a game back of Rimini at the moment.
