On Thursday evening in Parma, Fortitudo Bologna walked away winners in a tightly contested pitchers dual between Williamson for Bologna and Sanchez for Parma. The final in this one was two to nothing in favor of the visiting Bologna squad. Driving in the runs for Bologna was Ambrosino with a double to left in the 8th, who later came around to score on a single to center off the bat of Vaglio. The win went to Joey Williamson and save to Raul Rivero with two innings of perfect work on the bump, of which included an impressive 4 K’s.
In game two of this three game series (in Bologna), UnipolSai Bologna got the best of Lino’s Coffee Parma’s Italian mound when they walked away with the easy 9 to 2 victory on the backs of Panerati (win), De Santis and Crepaldi. Their impressive mound along with a 14 hit attack was just too much for Parma to handle. In the box the duo of Trent Carl Oeltjen (4 for 4) and Guilermo Rodriguez (3 for 5 with a homerun and 5 RBI’s) proved to be the real backbreaker for Parma’s trio of Giovanelli, Rivera and Loardi on the bump. This three game series will come to a conclusion this evening in Parma at 8:30 pm.
In the three game series between T&A San Marino and the Rimini Pirates, it was the Pirates that got off on the right foot on Thursday evening with the 7 to 2 win in San Marino off of T&A’s ace, Jr. Guerra, who only lasted 4.2 on the bump and finishing with line of 7 hits, 6 runs (2 earned), 4 walks and 5 K’s. On the other side of the ball Corradini had his best outing of the year, picking up the win with 5 innings of scoreless ball. Enorbel Marquez came on for the 3.2 inning save, giving up only two hits, no walks, and striking out three. At the plate for Rimini it was Oscar Salazar who shined with the bat, going 3 for 3 with 1 run score and 4 RBI of which included a 3 run homer in the 5th.
On Saturday afternoon T&A San Marino was able to even up the series at 1-1, with a hard fought 2-1 victory thanks to the supreme work of Delgado, Morreale and Cubilan on the hill, and the 2 for 4, 2 RBI day by Mattia Reginato that included a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th that plated Avagnina for the win. Michael Ekstrom was extremely tough for Rimini, going 8 innings, while surrendering only a single hit (an RBI double in the 4th), however Escalona wasn’t able to follow suit in the bottom of the 9th when he gave up 2 hits, 1 walk and 1 run.
T&A San Marino concluded their Friday evening with yet another win over the Rimini Pirates by the final of 5 to 4. Picking up the win for San Marino was Valerio Simone after his 6 innings of work on the bump, where he gave up only 1 run (unearned). Coming on for the save in the 9th was Luca Martignoni, but it wasn’t an easy one, as he allowed 1 run on 3 hits, but was able to strand the tying run on 3 after inducing Spinelli to ground into the game ending fielders choice. Coming up big on the offensive side of the ball for San Marino in this one was Duran (2 for 3, 2 runs scored), Morreale (2 for 4, 1 RBI) and Pulzetti (2 for 4, 2 RBI’s). With the win San Marino moves to 2 and 1 after the first week of the IBL’s second round of play, while Rimini drops to 1 and 2.
