Team Italy defeats Grand Canyon University 5-2 during Arizona Spring Training

Team Italy manager Gilberto “Gibo” Gerali was pleased to see his Azzurri baseball squad beat the Grand Canyon University Antelopes 5-2 at Mesa’s Hohokam Stadium on March 25, 2019. After a tie and back-to-back losses to Oakland A’s prospects since touching down in Phoenix for Arizona Spring Training, Team Italy was overdue for a victory. Starting pitcher Mattia Aldegheri and reliever Alex Bassani teamed up to keep Grand Canyon on edge for most of the game. Team Italy delivered a one-two punch with Sebastiano Poma and Aldo Koutsoyanopulos coming up big at the plate. Leadoff hitter Sebastiano Poma singled, doubled and scored twice. Two-hole hitter Aldo Koutsoyanopulos as well as slugger Alex Sambucci registered two-RBI singles to give Team Italy a commanding lead over the Antelopes. The fighting Azzurri hope to continue their winning ways tomorrow when Team Italy faces Paradise Valley Community College at Hohokam Stadium beginning at 2 pm. Forza #Italia! #LetsMakeItHappen
