Team Italy slugger Alex Liddi hits two RBI singles in Venados de Mazatlán 7-1 win over Caneros de los Mochis

Hitting second in the lineup and playing left field, Alex Liddi walked in his first at-bat and later hit a pair of RBI singles to help Venados de Mazatlán beat Caneros de los Mochis 7-1 on the road in front of over 10,000 midweek baseball fanatics at Emilio Ibarra Almada Stadium in Liga Mexicana del Pacífico action on October 24, 2019. Although he is listed on the Venados de Mazatlán roster as an infielder, it was the second consecutive start in left field for Team Italy third baseman Alex Liddi.

Alex Liddi in no newcomer to baseball in Mexico. He signed with 2015 Mexican Baseball League Champion Tigres de Quintana Roo in 2016. Hitting a respectable .281 in 110 games played, Alex Liddi led the Tigres in doubles (28), triples (4), home runs (23), RBI (91), total bases (220) and slugging percentage (.538). He was crowned 2016 Mexican Baseball League All-Star Home Run Derby Champion by launching 12 homers that cleared the outfield fences with ease.

The Mexican baseball accolades continued for Alex Liddi as he later became the first Italian to play in the Caribbean Series when joining 2016 Liga Mexicana del Pacífico Champion Venados de Mazatlán. Better known as Serie del Caribe or the Caribbean World Series, it is Latin America’s highest competitive baseball tournament at the club level featuring the respective champions from Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. In his final four games playing for Mexico’s Venados de Mazatlán, Alex Liddi went 4-for-17 with a triple and a double to help the Mexicans become 2016 Caribbean Series Champion

His golden touch continued in 2017 when he led Toros de Tijuana to the 2017 Mexican Baseball League Championship title. Alex Liddi returned to Venados de Mazatlán in 2018 and helped the team reach the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico semifinals. Most recently Alex Liddi led Leones de Yucatan to the 2019 Mexican Baseball League Championship series and hit .353 during the postseason with four doubles, five home runs, and 15 RBI in 16 playoff games.

Back by popular demand for the 2019-2020 winter league season, 31-year-old Italian baseball ambassador and Venados de Mazatlán fan favorite Alex Liddi hopes to bring back some Mazatlán magic on the coast of Baja California. In fact, over the years he has established himself as a winter ball premier player in Northwest Mexico after stints in Obregón, Culiacán and Jalisco.
