20190630 WEC FAMA Amanda ITA SOFT (CB-NADOC)Northview High School in Covina, California becomes a Softball Winter Wonderland from December 27-29, 2019, when four of the area’s most accomplished international players come together for the second annual Softball Around the World Youth Training Camp. Conceived by Team Venezuela/Team Mexico pitcher and current Northview High School Softball Head Coach Jamee Juarez, Softball Around the World features Saint Mary’s College Softball Assistant Coach Gordy Bravo (Team Mexico), Lubbock Stars U14 Head Coach Adriana Perez (Team Mexico), and Olympic-bound Amanda Fama from Team Italy.

The four softball all-stars have joined forces to share their skills and experiences with youth aged 8-10 for a comprehensive training camp on December 27, 2019. Amanda Fama said, “The younger kids will start out learning the basics of hitting, fielding, pitching, and catching all in one day.” Players over 10 years old with one year of travel ball experience or at least four years of recreational softball experience are invited to a two-day camp beginning December 28, 2019. Amanda Fama commented, “Day two and three are geared for older and more experienced athletes so that they may excel in all areas of the game. More in-depth work on defense, offense, pitching, base-running will be covered as well as a special Q & A segment.”

Amanda Fama has proven her weight in gold since becoming the Team Italy shortstop in 2018, when she was named as the Best Hitter of the Super 6 Softball Tournament with an impressive .636 batting average. Most recently as the Team Italy leadoff hitter in 2019, Amanda Fama hit .553 with nine home runs and 16 RBI in the European Championship and later led the Italian squad in the Europe-Africa Olympic Qualifier in triples (3), total bases (12), and slugging percentage (.857).

Amanda Fama, Jamee Juarez, Gordy Bravo, and Adriana Perez are now on the same team to help grow the game with Softball Around the World. Amanda Fama concluded, “Our goal in these camps is not only to have the athletes gain as much knowledge from us, but also for them to realize what this sport has done for us in so many ways for the past twenty five years. The four of us bring a lot of variety to show the younger athletes: travel ball, no travel ball, community college, NAIA, D1, NPF, international competition, and of course now the Olympics! This is a huge year for all softball players, and more than anything we want kids to grow and the sport to grow along with the athletes...”
