A fan favorite in his native Dominican Republic as well as in Italy, 26-year-old switch-hitter Robel Garcia signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs last October after he was seen raking at the plate while playing for Team Italy in a series of Arizona Instructional League games at Mesa's Fitch Park. Prior to making his MLB debut on July 3, 2019, Robel Garcia made 291 plate appearances between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a combined .285 batting average with 21 home runs, 14 doubles and one triple.

After playing all four infield positions and being named the Chicago Cubs Minor League Player of the Month in April, Robel Garcia earned the right to put his power to work for the Chicago Cubs in 31 MLB games this season and crushed five home runs, including a 456-foot blast into McCovey Cove against the San Francisco Giants.
