The 2021 European Baseball Championship Piemonte toasts with Mèttola and announces Mèttola Package Design Contest open to young artists under 32
The 2021 European Baseball Championship in Piemonte has partnered with , makers of both fine wines and sparkling wines. With its vibrant location in the lush region between Neive, Treiso and Trezzo Tinella, the famliy-run Mèttola facility produces world-class Langa wines. Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball (FIBS) President Andrea Marcon said, "We had set ourselves the goal of involving companies that represented Piemontese food and wine excellence. After visiting the Mèttola Winery, we had no doubts that we had found our first official partner." Mèttola President and Head of Marketing Giovanni Capano echoed the sentiment for the newly-signed agreement for the 2021 European Baseball Championship in Piemonte. He said, "It is a natural match for us since baseball is an international sport that embodies the noble values of fairness and competition. We produce a natural and healthy product for wine lovers from all over the world who enjoy the good things in life. How we could resist such a great opportunity to partner with the 2021 European Baseball Championship in Piemonte?"
The sponsorship agreement between FIBS and Mèttola is a true synergy. In celebration of the upcoming Euro Championship, there will be a special Mèttola Baseball Collection of Doc and Docg wines available in honor of the event. Flavio Bera, oenologist and managing director of Mèttola, chose the most representative Piemontese wines to be included in the Mèttola Baseball Collection: Barolo Docg, Moscato d'Asti Docg, Piemonte Doc Moscato Passito, Langhe Doc Rosso, Barbera d'Alba Doc, Dolcetto d 'Alba Doc Superiore, Langhe Doc Nascetta and Dolcetto d'Alba Doc.
In addition, the Mèttola Winery and FIBS have launched the Mèttola Package Design Contest open to young designers under 32 from all over the world. FIBS President Andrea Marcon commented, "Sport in general is often a tool for personal growth for young people. We asked Mèttola to commission the creation of the Mèttola Baseball Collection package complete with a special competiton designed for young artists." FIBS and Mèttola want to assist young designers from the beginning of the creative process by involving them every step of the way in developing a new package including: receiving a structured brief, producing the first sketches as well as the mock-ups and developing the final product. It is expected that students from the European Institute of Design, Torino Polytechnic, Milano Academy of Fine Arts and the Institute of Applied Art and Design will participate in the competition.
A team of marketing and package experts will evaluate the submissions in March to decide which the nine designs will be selected. The winning designers will receive the FIBS 2021 Baseball and Communication Award, which will represented by a thematic print from the FIBS Historical Collection created by Roberto Buganè in 1956 when Italy hosted its first European Baseball Championship. Winners will be invited to a meet and greet with Team Italy during the 2021 European Baseball Championship in Piemonte.
