Bollate and Bussolengo split in the first round, while Forlí earns a postseason bid

It was a long and intense day in Bollate when Bollate and Bussolengo got their 2014 semifinals series underway. Bollate walked away with the victory in a 3 to 2 extra inning affair in game 1, while Bussolengo destroyed Bollate in game 2 by the final of 11 to 0.

In game of the semifinals matchup between Bollate and Specchiasol Bussolengo, it was the home team Bollate girls that surprised Bussolengo with the 3 to 2 extra inning win. It was Bussolengo’s first loss of 2014, after going the regular season undefeated. Bussolengo out hit Bollate 6 to 4, and committed two less errors in the box score, however they were unable to capitalize in diverse situations, eventually stranding 10 runners on base throughout the course of the game. In the 8th Bollate walked off Bussolengo after Cindy Vander Zanden was able the cross the plate on a fielders chose. Greta Cecchetti picked up the complete game victory, while Alice Ronchetti suffered the extra inning loss.

In game 2 the momentum complete shifted in Bussolengo direction after they were able to put up an impressive 11 runs on the board, 7 of which came in 5th. Kimberly Bruins was absolutely dominate for Bussolengo, going the complete distance on the rubber, where she allowed no hits, no runs, only 2 walks, and struck out 10. At the plate for Bussolengo, Bennet, Brandi, and Buila all picked up 2 hits apiece, while Bennet also knocked out a solo shot in the 4th off of Serena Boniardi. The series will continue this upcoming weekend in Bussolengo.

Fiorini Forlí will now enter into the 2014 postseason thanks to picking up the 4 to 1 victory in their makeup game against Caserta over the weekend. Forlí will now faceoff in the Semifinals of the ISL against Rhibo La Loggia in a series that will kick off Tuesday the 24th.
