Team Italy defeats Austria 15-0 via mercy rule and advances to U22 Women’s European Softball Championship Super Round

Team Italy winning pitcher Lia Miller threw 46 pitches in the three-inning mercy-rule 15-0 shutout over Austria in the U22 Women’s European Softball Championship at Edward J Piszek Softball Stadium in Kutno, Poland on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. The Italians play Germany in their final Opening Round game later today at 6 pm (local time).

Team Italy remained undefeated (3-0) in the U22 Women’s European Softball Championship in Kutro Poland after cruising to a 15-0 victory over Austria. The Italians wasted no time to get on the board with a leadoff solo homer from Felicia Di Pancrazio.  An RBI single by Alexia Lacatena followed by a series of defensive errors produced another three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Azzurre offense added one run in the bottom of the second inning after an RBI double by Virginia Mambelli. Team Italy nailed the coffin shut via mercy rule in the bottom of the third inning when scoring an additional nine runs. Highlights included an RBI single from Silvia Torre, an RBI double by Alexia Lacatena, and a three-run home run from Delia Manera.
