Italy beats Germany 12-0 and prepares for Netherlands

A dominant Italy topped Germany 12-0 to pick up a key victory heading into their matchup with the Netherlands on Friday

A dominant Italy topped Germany 12-0 to pick up a key victory heading into their matchup with the Netherlands on Friday.  Oberto pitched a complete game nine inning shutout for the win, allowing just four hits and one walk.

Italy opened the scoring with three runs in the second thanks to two of Germany's five errors and a two run single by Poma. The game would remain 3-0 into the seventh when Italy would score three more times without a hit thanks to two hit by pitches and sloppy defense.  Then in the ninth Italy broke the game open with six hits and six runs.

Vaglio finished 3 for 3 with two RBI and two doubles, reaching base all six times to win the man of the match for the third time in the tournament.

All eyes now turn to the matchup with unbeaten Netherlands on Friday, which is close to a must win for the Italians to make the final, otherwise they would need to count on Spain stumbling and tie breakers going their way to have a chance.
