Team Italy makes U18 European Baseball Championship debut against Israel in Regensburg, Germany

Team Italy U18 manager Guglielmo Trinci believes his Azzurri squad is ready to compete at its highest level in the Euros

After a series of exhibition games in a pre-Euros tournament, Azzurri U18 skipper Guglielmo Trinci thinks the time is now for Team Italy. He exclaimed, “Everything so far has been extremely positive. We are ready!.”  

The Italians make their U18 European Baseball Championship debut against Israel on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 2 pm (local time) in Regensburg, Germany. Team Italy is Group A, which includes Israel, Austria, Croatia, Spain and Germany. Group B features Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Sweden. The goal is for the Azzurri is to qualify for the semi-finals on Saturday, July 13th and ultimately the finals on Sunday, July 14th. 

Team Italy U18 manager Guglielmo Trinci continued, “We can't wait to get with the competition. The pre-European tournament confirmed our beliefs that we have a good team. In the four games we played in the last few days, there were some mistakes, but the boys showed determination and the right mental approach after giving up a run. I liked the team's desire to play at a high level."

The Azzurri baseball squad  hopes to improve upon its fourth-place finish in the last edition of the Euros behind champion Spain, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. Among the twenty players selected to represent Team Italy, shortstop Edoardo Cornelli as well as pitchers Diego Gergolet and Giacomo Taschin return for their second U18 European Baseball Championship appearance.
