Softball: Preparations begin for the ‘Torneo della Repubblica’

The 2014 ISL season is expected to be a year of growth according to the president of the federation, Riccardo Fraccari, in a statement made back in April. This season is expected to be one that helps open the door on a league expansion, as well as prepare both the Senior and Junior National teams for a couple of very important international events that will take place this summer. In August the Senior Club will be heading to Haarlem, Holland for the Softball World Cup, while at the end of July the Junior Club will be locked in the European Championship in Rosmalen, Holland.

One of the events leading up to these two very important international softball tournaments will be the 2nd annual ‘Torneo della Repubblica’ that will take place from the 30th of March to the 2nd of June, and will be played in Caronno Pertusella, and Bollate. It’s going to be a five team tournament that will feature the likes of the Caronno and Friends (a selection of players out of the ISL), France, two Junior Italian National Teams, and the Seniors Italian National Team.

In the occasion of this tournament on her home soil, the Senior Italian National Team’s head coach, Marina Centrone, has invited 19 female athletes to partake in this event wearing the Team Italy jersey.

Pitcher: Paola Cavallo (Banco di Sardegna Nuoro), Ilaria Cacciamani (Fiorini Forlì), Elisa Brandino e Michela Musitelli Romani (Rhibo La Loggia), Alice Ronchetti (Bussolengo).

Catcher: Valeria Bortolomai (Bussolengo), Sara Avanzi (Rhibo La Loggia), Ilaria Pino (Legnano).

Infielders: Priscilla Brandi (Bussolengo), Lara Cecchetti (Bollate), Lucia Carlucci e Sandra Bosdachin (Rhibo La Loggia), Giulia Longhi (Caserta), Eva Trevisan (Blue Girls Pianoro).

Outfielders: Irene Barone (Legnano), Lara Buila (Bussolengo), Beatrice Ricchi e Isabella Dalbesio (Rhibo La Loggia), Andrea Silvia Montanari (Fiorini Forlì).

Marina Centrone’s staff on hand wiil feature pitching coach, Monica Corvino, coach, Paola Marfoglia and Calixto Soca Mijar, trainer, Fabrizio Goracci, and physical therapist Claudio de Riu.
