Team Italy: Prague Baseball Week serves as prelude to U18 European Championship in Grosseto

Team Italy manager Gilberto “Gibo” Gerali will lead the Juniors U18 baseball squad along with four U23 players in a competition against seven teams from three continents during Prague Baseball Week from June 26-30, 2018

Team Italy manager Gilberto “Gibo” Gerali will lead the Juniors U18 baseball squad along with four U23 players in a competition against seven teams from three continents during Prague Baseball Week from June 26-30, 2018. 20180530 L'Italia U18 baseball in raduno a Grosseto, nella foto con il Sindaco Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna Australia’s NSW Blue Sox, the 3n2 International Stars and the International Future Stars (featuring players from the USA) as well as the national teams of Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and Belarus are represented in the international tournament.  

The Italians kick off Group A tournament action against Czech Republic on June 26 at 12 noon (EDT). The Azzurri return to face the 3n2 International Stars on June 27 at 8 am (EDT). Team Italy plays its final Group A round-robin game against the NSW Blue Sox on June 28 at 8 am (EDT). Playoffs between the top finishers in Group A and B begin June 29 and continue through June 30. Team Italy will use Prague Baseball Week as the final tune up in preparation of the U18 European Championship, which takes place in Grosseto from July 9-15, 2018.

Team Italy skipper Gibo Gerali will be assisted by bench coach John Cortese, pitching coach Massimiliano Masin, as well as coaches Giovanni Mario Costa, Gianluca Marenghi, and Stefano Cappuccini. Azzurri athletic trainer Giovanni Natale, team manager Filippo Comelli, physician Carmine Picece and physical therapist Massimo Baldi will also be joining the traveling entourage.
