Team Italy slugger Alex Liddi named Liga Mexicana de Beisbol Hitter of the Week

Having played 57 games for Leones de Yucatán since his departure from Taiwan, Team Italy third baseman Alex Liddi has become an offensive weapon for the first-place Mexican squad

Having played 57 games for Leones de Yucatán since his departure from Taiwan, Team Italy third baseman Alex Liddi has become an offensive weapon for the first-place Mexican squad. From August 19-25, 2019, the 31-year-old international baseball ambassador registered a .545 batting average with 12 hits (including four doubles and two home runs) and 12 RBI.

As a result of his recent outstanding offensive performance, Alex Liddi was named the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol Hitter of the Week. Not only has he proven to be one of the best defensive players at the hot corner, but he has consistently contributed to Leones de Yucatán offense with an overall season .336 batting average, 11 homers, and 64 RBI.

With the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol playoffs beginning September 3, there is a strong possibility that Alex Liddi will not be available to play for Team Italy in the Europe-Africa Olympic Qualifier from September 18-22 in Parma and Bologna. It will all depend on how Leones de Yucatán fares in the first round of the best-of-seven game playoffs.

Should the Mexican team advance to the second round, Leones de Yucatán would play another best-of-seven game series beginning September 14. Despite the possibility of losing Alex Liddi to the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol playoffs, we wish him and the Leones de Yucatán continued success. Forza #Italia! #LetsMakeItHappen
