In Rimini, the city has a lot to look forward to as the Rimini Pirates head into their 2015 campaign under the new direction of Orlando Munoz. The Pirates have had a rough go at it to say the least over the past couple of years, making it to the finals of the Italian Baseball League and coming up just short on all three occasions, but the atmosphere surrounding the organization heading into this season is without a doubt on the up-and-up, even with the departure of a number of well know names off of their 2014 roster, beginning with Rimini’s ex team captain, Mario Chairini, who will be playing for T&A San Marino this season, along with Rimini’s old short stop, Jack Santora. The other names that weren't confirmed for this season include Enorbel Marquez, Oscar Salazar, Adolfo Gomez, Franklin Torres, Enrique Gonzalez and Mike Ekstrom. New to the club this season include a number of names that all have the possibility of being a difference maker on the diamond. Beginning with the two new outfielders, Stefano Desimoni (Parma in 2014), and Paul Macaluso (San Marino in 2014). Next, Rimini introduced four quality new arms to the bunch which now makes their mound a deeper and more solid then ever. The four new names include Victor Moreno (Acereros Monclova in 2014) Carlos Richetti (Nettuno 2 in 2014), Filippo Bertolini (Piacenza in 2014) and Alexis Candelario (Gigantes Rivas in 2014). Rimini then had to look for a name to fill in the gap left behind by Santora at the shortstop position, and they did so in a big way with the signing of ex big leaguer, Ray Olmedo (Durham Bulls in 2014). Finally, the ownership in Rimini then filled in a couple more gaps with the signing of both C / 1B - Edgar Mundarain and 2B / SS Lorenzo Fabbri (both played for Rimini Riviera in 2014). Add these new names to the already existing ones like P -Josè Escalona, OF - Alex Romero, OF - Leo Zileri, C - Riccardo Bertagnon and 3B - Giuseppe Mazzanti, and it makes for a pretty interesting and dangerous bunch. Their season gets underway on Friday evening in Rimini against Nettuno at 8:30 pm, with the two game set coming to a conclusion on Saturday at 8:30 pm.
