Under the rain, UnipolSai Bologna is the champion of the Italian Baseball League

Rain delayed game six of the Italian Baseball Series a day, and then twice interrupted the game before it was finally called after six innings, but the weather could not contain the Bologna joy, or prevent what seemed inevitable as the superior team had two match points in its home ballpark after leaving Rimini up 3-2

Rain delayed game six of the Italian Baseball Series a day, and then twice interrupted the game before it was finally called after six innings, but the weather could not contain the Bologna joy, or prevent what seemed inevitable as the superior team had two match points in its home ballpark after leaving Rimini up 3-2.  Ryan Searle pitched almost five no-hit innings before the long rain delay knocked him out of the game and had teams wait past midnight to resume. After spending hours preparing the field, the teams got in eight more outs before another downpour made the chances of resuming impossible.  Vaglio drove in two runs, including Italian Baseball Series MVP Marval in the fourth for the only offense of the six inning rain shortened game.

Reminicent of the 2008 World Series when the Phillies celebrated a championship over the Rays when the rain hampered the final game, Bologna will be able to celebrate the victory over countless sunny days, as it earned the team the star they will stitch to all future uniforms representing ten league championships, five of which have come since 2000.  Bologna manager Daniele Frignani became the first rookie mananger to win a championship since 1997, having won several as a player for them.
